Bill 208 Needs an Evidence Checkpoint Before the Next Meeting

Alberta Choice Vaping Alliance says MLAs should set a checkpoint before any new Bill 208 meeting is scheduled.

The checkpoint is simple

the September 24 transcript records that Bill 208 was deferred until the Lobbyists Act review is complete. Before the file returns, the committee should define the evidence it expects to have in hand.

Checkpoint items

  • Cross-jurisdictional impacts on illegal supply.
  • Retail inspection and complaint numbers.
  • Youth source-of-access evidence.
  • Adult smoker transition and substitution impacts.

Why this matters

Bill 208 targets flavoured single-use vaping products, but the existing provincial rules already cover age, ID, display, advertising, fines, and prohibited sales locations. An evidence checkpoint would show why a new restriction is necessary.
