A simple amendment test
Bill 208 defines a new restriction on flavoured single-use vaping products and states that it would come into force one year after Royal Assent, according to the bill text. Before that clock starts, Alberta should know which channel is actually causing the problem.
The map should be public
- Where youth report getting products.
- How many inspections found retailer non-compliance.
- How many complaints involved online sellers, informal resellers, or illegal operators.
- Which enforcement body owns each response.
The fair outcome
A fair policy can still restrict bad actors. It should not treat every adult consumer and every compliant retailer as if they are the same as an illegal seller.
